About

I am an individual living in the sleepy city of Hanoi. The city and the country in general have a vibrant culinary culture with fresh ingredients spices and herbs. Despite this, from time to time I find it difficult to locate the required ingredients for many rather simple dishes that I used to eat in other countries; this is partly due to the different in culture, the gap in language and the nature of the raw market which mean many foodstuff may not be available or only available in unprocessed form or only available to the few who know where to look. This blog is henceforth build to close the gap of language, culture and help people who want to DIY their own meal a guide to where to locate their ‘Foodstuff in Hanoi’.

A chef once told me the first things he does when he visit a new country is getting used to the local products because the same things may taste differently in different countries; not to mention the many names it may have. I hope this blog can help provide a starting guide as to what the product look like, how does it taste and where to find it.

Happy cooking.
